Dear Yuletide Writer
Thank you very much for writing for me! I am super looking forward to reading your work.
General Likes (Do Want)
‣ Poor Communication Skills™
‣ first times
‣ kisses
‣ grand romantic gestures
‣ scene-setting and atmosphere
‣ domesticity / curtain fics
‣ kittens, puppies
‣ Jerks with Hearts of Gold and Stoic Woobies
‣ happy endings; ambiguous endings
I like stories grounded in canon most of all but I can be sold on just about any divergence, AU included, if it's logical. I'd like to see your thought process in-narrative, though, otherwise I may have difficulty connecting with your interpretation. One notable exception is if you ignore or handwave canon heterosexual love interests. Please feel free to do that as much as you want. 🤭
General Yikes (Do Not Want)
‣ any explicit sexual situations involving any character under the age of 18
‣ heterosexual sex
‣ any relationship with elements of domination and/or submission (e.g. seme/uke dynamics or any approximation thereof)
‣ the absence of enthusiastic, unequivocal consent to sex at any point during a sexual encounter
‣ pregnancy (kids are fine, including babies; I am just very anxious about the minutiae leading up to and surrounding childbirth)
‣ most hard kinks but especially incest, BDSM, rape fantasy, bloodplay, breathplay, scat, watersports, felching, munging, necro, bestiality.
I strongly prefer not to receive issuefic. It's absolutely fine if your story addresses and/or examines the societal injustices that exist in the canon worlds (Kai's origins and upbringing being held against him by jealous competitors, the racism baked into so many aspects of Dunmeri culture, Food Wars!' Japan's entrenched patriarchy) but I just would not like these issues to become the focus of the story, especially if used as quasi-surrogates to make Grand Points about our own world. I already care about our world on its own terms; I don't want or need to read fan fiction that takes pains to remind me that I should care.
Now, on to fandoms (fandoms and characters are listed in no particular order).
Fandom: ピアノの森 | Piano no Mori | Forest of Piano (Anime)
Characters: Amamiya Shuuhei, Ichinose Kai
I am a classically trained (but lapsed) pianist and I love piano music; I especially love solo performances because of how incredibly expressive they can be; this show hit soo many "yay" buttons for me in that aspect.
But, basically, not gonna lie, I just want these two to be grown up, married to each other, and living their best lives. That's it, that's all. How it happens is entirely up to you. If that's not your flavour, them living their best lives is enough, but I just really want to see the places they both will go when they grow up. If you see Shuuhei quitting music in frustration at his own perceived inadequacy in the face of Kai's sheer genius, I'd love to read about how he channels that into something new to be passionate about. I loved the focus the show put on music and would welcome more of the same in fic about it -- I know it's challenging to write about music itself, especially classical music, but it's enough if I know how music makes characters feel or how it resonates with their physical environment.
Fandom: Elder Scrolls Online
Characters: Mirri Elendis, Naryu Virian, Worldbuilding
I have played the Elder Scrolls games since Arena was brand new, and I have been obsessed with ESO for the past ~7 years; it's pretty much a permanent fixture in my daily routine, even if I just log in to do my main's writs and the day's endeavours. I stream ESO casually when I do group content and (very occasionally) housing. I mostly do veteran trials and DLC dungeons with my Nightblade tank main, but I also do zone questing on my alts and PVP (AD best D). I'm up to date on current canon but honestly don't know if I'll be done with the Deadlands by the time Yuletide goes live, but probably. I like to take my time with new story content because we get it so rarely, so sometimes it takes me a bit to get through everything. So just in case, please, no Deadlands story spoilers.
ANYWAY!!! Mirri is my favourite companion, and not only because she lets me loot Thieves' Troves and do my stealing endeavours in peace. She is superior to Bastian in every possible way, and the only reason I ever adventure with Bastian is for the achievements. Once I get the last one (summon him fully leveled) done, he's going back in his cage and Mirri will be my forever girl. I love Naryu because, well, who on earth doesn't love Naryu?
I did not know I wanted Mirri and Naryu in the same space interacting until I saw this list of characters but oh my god!! There is SO MUCH potential there and please feel free to take it anywhere -- enemies, frenemies, friends to lovers, enemies to lovers, enemies to friends to fellow stowaways aboard a Maormer vessel, best friends forever, casual hookup type lovers, star-crossed lovers, honestly, I do not care. Mirri and Naryu just need to be in the same story, interacting and doing stuff!! I requested Worldbuilding in addition because I do absolutely want the whole trip to the department of backstory even if the story is set during a time when Naryu and Mirri already have whatever relationship it is that you envision for them. BUT I also love, love, love TES lore in general, so if you want to spend 3 paragraphs lovingly describing somebody's house in Stonefalls or Rivenspire or a pocket of Oblivion, I'm there with you.
I have two specific DNWs for this fandom.
1. The player character must not be centered; in fact, it'd be ideal if the player character is absent and/or a footnote with no specific identifying details. My main has their own RP/headcanon-y connections with both Mirri (through the companion questlines) and Naryu (through the main story quests and her DLC cameos). It's absoultely fine to make reference to the player character, but please, no names or personal backstory details:
"Mirri and Naryu met when the hero known to many as The Vestige rode through the Coloured Rooms on a unicorn and rescued Darien from the clutches of an amorous Mournful Aegis." YES
"Mirri and Naryu loved each other and also their friend Rodulf the Magnificent, the Nord assassin from Winterhold." NO
2. Any sexual/romantic involvement between the player character and either Mirri or Naryu; not even mentioned, please.
Fandom: 食戟のソーマ | Food Wars! Shokugeki no Soma
Characters: Nakiri Erina, Kinokuni Nene, Tadokoro Megumi
I like this series for the food. No, seriously. I share a deeply spiritual connection with Souma's endless attempts to create delicious things by combining things that shouldn't be delicious together (though unlike Souma, I do not try to feed other people my creations). I actually found the overt sexualisation of the characters in this series a turn-off, especially when it was done to the female characters, all of whom I adore. While of course a lot of the Cooking Techniques!! featured were just exaggeration/comedy, I actually did learn a lot about food prep from researching the bits that were accurate. So, to sum up, I would 100% love to read about cooking in explicit detail, if you are so inclined, especially if it's Dramatic Cooking with Fabulous Techniques (though maybe leave people's clothes bursting open in the canon where it belongs 😝).
I would be happy to read about ANY of these characters -- I love them all for different reasons -- so there is no need to include them all, but it's absolutely fine to include them all, as well. I would most like to see them pursuing their dreams as adults in the future (whether the dreams are the same as when they were high school kids or different is up to you); I would love to get dropped into their lives then, whether those revolve around cooking or not, and have a look at what they've accomplished (or not, as the case may be).
Genfic and shipfic welcome; for shipfic, any combination of the requested characters (Erina/Nene, Nene/Megumi, Erina/Megumi, Erina/Nene/Megumi) is totally okay by me, but please no unrequested romantic/sexual partners if you go the shippy route, listed characters only.
